The Institut Ramon Llull will promote research and specialisation in Catalan studies in universities abroad

This commitment is a response to the high status of universities that offer Catalan studies. Catalan language and culture are taught in 10 out of the 25 most significant universities worldwide.

Literature

Anna Gual, Andrea Genovart, and Sergi Pompermayer selected for residencies at Château de Lavigny and Art Omi in 2024.

The three Catalan writers will be residents this year at two international literary centres in Switzerland and the United States as part of a collaboration agreement with the Institut Ramon Llull.

Music

Òpera a Catalunya (Opera in Catalonia) takes 5 productions to Estonia in a historic milestone for the company

Opera in Catalonia will be the main artist at the Saaremaa Opera Festival (Estonia), from 23 to 27 July, and will offer a performance as part of the Tartu programme, European Capital of Culture 2024, on 21 July. 150 people – including choir, orchestra, soloists, flamenco ballet company and technical and production teams – will travel to Estonia in what is the company’s greatest challenge to date.

Performing

”Història d'un senglar” (Story of a wild boar) the first play performed entirely in Catalan to be scheduled at the Avignon Festival

This year's official programme features Baró d'Evel, a Franco-Catalan company, presenting Qui som (Who we are), a production combining circus, dance, and poetry. The Institut Ramon Llull is supporting the programming of these two works at the prestigious French festival.

Arts

Catalan artists Laia Estruch and Jordi Bernadó participate in the Kortrijk Triennial for Contemporary Art.

Kortrijk (Belgium) transforms into a contemporary art hub from 29 June to 6 October, with its streets becoming exhibition spaces for the third edition of this international event. Laia Estruch's Trena installation takes centre stage at the Triennale.
