'Line, Word and Gesture' is an international conference that seeks to investigate bi- or multi-modal forms of communication in literature, the visual arts and performance in the Hispanic World. It takes place on 15 and 16 September at the University of Birmingham. Poet, writer and critic Sebastià Alzamora; visual artist Julio César (Amarillo Indio) and journalist Vicent Sanchis are among the confirmed speakers.

The London Spanish Film Festival launches its 12th edition from 22 to 29 September with a line-up of recent films, most of them UK Premieres. The festival includes the 8th Catalan Window, featuring 'Ebre. From the Cradle to the Battle' and 'Àgata's friends', a programme supported by the Institut Ramon Llull. It also features 'Nadie quiere la noche' by Isabel Coixet, among other co-productions.

The University of Oxford presents The XVII Forum for Iberian Studies, entitled 'The Crisis in the Iberian Peninsula' on 29 and 30 September. This conference takes as its focal point the financial crisis that began in 2007–2008 and argues that it has had an undeniable impact on society in the Iberian Peninsula. Speakers will discuss the repercussions of the crisis on contemporary cultural production, particularly in literature and the arts.
