For the second time, Faberllull Olot is hosting the Mediterranean Polluting Writing Workshop for Playwrights promoted by the Tantarantana Theatre in Barcelona. Participants are requested to write on the topics that cannot be expressed on the shores of the Mediterranean. The topics could include themes such as colonialism and post-colonialism, the intersection of the three major monotheistic religions and diverse cultures, which includes areas such as alchemy, theology, and science; or sea travel for various reasons such as social, political, ecological, emotional or mythical. Residents will be in Faberllull Olot until Thursday, December 5.
The residents:
The group of residents consists of the playwrights Sadurní Vergés (Vic), Ester Medrano (Requena, Valencian Community), Aina de Cos (Palma, Mallorca), Hamza Boulaiz (Rabat, Morocco), and Bernhard Glocksin (Berlin, Germany). They will be accompanied by the playwrights Rodrigo García Olza (Barcelona) and Albert Tola (Barcelona), who will direct the group work sessions and workshops; and by the cultural journalist Alba Valle (Valencia), who will act as rapporteur of the sessions.
All of them are drama professionals associated with various prestigious institutions, including the Goethe Institute in Rabat, the Neuköllner Oper in Berlin, the Teatre Principal in Palma, the Inestable in Valencia, and the Teatre Tantarantana in Barcelona..
Work sessions:
Residents will engage in continuous dialogue and will always be accompanied by workshop facilitators. These sessions will include exercises and guided writing prompts. The polluting drama workshop is created, directed, and taught using the unique methodology of playwright Albert Tola and director Rodrigo García Olza (Nigredo Teatro), with coordination, management, and production overseen by Tantarantana Theatre.
They will collaborate to create a striking constellation of plays that reflect each other. Participants will meet to jointly investigate dramatic spaces, polluting writings and historical and contemporary themes seen from each latitude’s unique perspective.
The experience will commence in December in Faberllull and will continue with an additional workshop in 2025 outside the residency. This will complete the creative process, culminating in the publication of the written texts in a specialized medium.
Activities outside Faberllull
Tomorrow, Wednesday, at 6 pm, the students of the El Galliner theatre school in Girona will do a dramatized reading of some of the texts written during these days in Faberllull. For the authors, this will be the first time they detach themselves from their work and hear how it sounds when read aloud by an actor.
Residents will travel to the headquarters of the Institut Ramon Llull in Barcelona on Thursday morning to hold their final work session with those responsible for the creative area.
